Suspected arson on Site of Special Scientific Interest

Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a fire at a protected Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) in the Cotswolds on Wednesday evening (1 July).

Officers were called to a blaze on Cleeve Common in Bishop’s Cleeve at around 9.45pm, along with the fire service who were able to extinguish the flames. They believe the fire had been started deliberately.

Grassland and trees were damaged by the fire, but no-one was injured during the incident.

Prior to the arrival of emergency services, two people were seen running away from the scene.

Investigating officers are now appealing for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
