Police warning after phone scam targets Gloucestershire residents

Police in Gloucestershire are warning residents to be vigilant of texts following a rise in “smishing” scams.

Numerous residents across the county have reported that they are receiving scam text messages where fraudsters are posing as companies such as DVLA, HMRC, Royal Mail or banks, to trick victims into disclosing their banking details.

Don’t become a victim of “smishing” fraud. Recognise scam texts and forward them to your network provider on 7726.

If you have lost money because of a scam, you should immediately notify your bank, and make a report to the police via http://actionfraud.police.uk or by calling 0300 123 2040.
