New countywide bus map launched for Gloucestershire ​

A new county-wide bus map designed to make journey planning easier for residents and visitors has been published by Gloucestershire County Council.

The map shows all major bus routes across the county, including services operated by different companies, allowing users to quickly see where buses travel and how routes connect.

It also highlights the locations of railway stations, helping passengers plan journeys that combine bus and train travel.

The map can be downloaded and printed in full colour, and includes a QR code linking to Traveline, where passengers can check timetables and view live departure information to track their bus.

The map also shows the areas served by The Robin, the county’s on-demand transport service which connects rural communities with flexible public transport.

The service allows passengers to book journeys rather than relying on fixed timetables, providing what officials describe as a lifeline for residents with limited access to traditional bus services. Journeys on Robin buses cost a standard £3 fare.

Councillor Roger Whyborn, cabinet member for sustainable transport and road safety at Gloucestershire County Council, said the new map aims to remove one of the biggest barriers to bus use.

“One of the biggest barriers for people using the bus is simply knowing where services go and how they link together. This new map tackles that head-on by bringing everything into one clear picture for the whole county,” he said.

“It’s about giving people confidence to try the bus, whether they’re travelling locally, connecting with rail, or using our Robin services in rural areas.”

He added that further improvements are planned, including new day tickets allowing passengers to switch between different bus operators without paying again, as well as better connections between bus routes and rail services.

“This map lays the foundations for further planned improvements, including better ticketing and stronger connections between services, as we continue to make public transport a more practical and appealing choice for everyday journeys.”
