Joedan marks 40 years in business with £3m investment plan

A Gloucestershire-founded manufacturer and installer of aluminium windows and doors is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a £3 million investment aimed at driving future growth.

Joedan, established by husband and wife John and Nicky Purcaro at their kitchen table in 1985, has announced plans to expand its operations as it targets doubling annual revenues to £35 million by 2030. The investment will support new machinery, improvements to its design centre network and the opening of a second manufacturing facility on the Isle of Wight.

Named after the couple’s children, Joseph and Daniella, the family-run business has grown steadily over four decades and now employs more than 120 people across its headquarters in Tewkesbury and design centres in Winchester and on the Isle of Wight.

Founder John Purcaro said the milestone provided an opportunity to reflect on the company’s journey while focusing firmly on the future.

“The business was literally set up on our kitchen table, so we’ve come a long way since we made that decision in 1985,” he said. “Nicky gave us three rules to follow – no pressure selling, never opening on Bank Holidays or at Christmas, and making sure the business carried our children’s names so we would never fail them.

“These values have stood us in good stead and remain a vital part of the business. We are also committed to moving to the next level and that’s why we’ve just signed off on a £3m investment plan.”

Today, Joedan designs, manufactures and installs aluminium windows and doors for both residential and commercial clients, including long-standing customers in education, healthcare and industry. Its ‘Lusso’ aluminium range is produced at a 32,000 sq ft site in Tewkesbury, while its ‘Portofino’ UPVC collection is supplied through a long-term partnership with CO Manufacturing.

Commercial work currently accounts for around 60 per cent of the company’s £18 million turnover, although its retail arm has expanded significantly following a series of acquisitions, including Wessex Window Systems, Micron Windows and Doors, Coastline Home Improvements and Topline Windows. More recently, Joedan has taken a stake in Eden Windows Doors & Conservatories, extending its reach across Kent and Greater London.

Alongside business growth, the company has also invested in training through its Apprenticeship Academy, established in 2000. More than 100 apprentices have since joined the workforce, with two former apprentices now serving on the board of directors.

Managing Director Joseph Purcaro said the investment marked the start of the company’s next chapter.

“There is a real family feel to our business and that flows through everything we do,” he said. “It has helped us complete more than 500,000 installations over the last forty years. Now the focus is on building for the next generation, and we are looking forward to putting the expansion plans into action over the coming months.”
