Jennie Didcote, who was the long-serving Postmistress for Bishops Cleeve, has been given Royal recognition for services to her Gloucestershire community.
After 51 years working at Post Offices, Jennie retired in October. She had spent more than five decades making a difference to the Gloucestershire communities that she has served and to improve the lives of seriously ill youngsters with her fundraising.
Jennie left school at 15 and went to work at Northleach Post Office in Gloucestershire in the market town where she grew up. She assisted in the branch for 25 years until the Postmaster retired. At age 40, a new chapter of her life began when Jennie became a Post Office assistant in Bishops Cleeve. This led to the opportunity to become the Postmistress in 2005.
Twenty years ago, Jennie came up with the idea of selling second-hand books at the Post Office with an honesty table, jigsaws were then added. This has all helped to raise £75,000 for the Acorns Children’s Hospice. Jennie will never forget the day that she spent at this hospice to have the opportunity to see how her fundraising would support many youngsters.
